Display Power Management System (DPMS) Config

MySpace Biennale in Second Gallery

I encountered a funny problem last weekend installing Charles Broskoski’s MySpace Biennale. Two of the machines were running ubuntu dapper but I’d removed the desktop managers in order to automate the login process. Because of default power management settings in X, the displays kept going to sleep. This is intensely annoying for the gallery attendant who must constantly walk up and shake the mice hidden behind the PCs.

Turns out, the timeout settings are hardcoded into X by default. A little googlesearching turned up the solutions. You can check out the details on this Ubuntu forums thread.

Be sure to check out Personal Computer at Second Gallery. It is up until April 15 and the gallery is open Wed- Sat, 12-6pm. Disfruta!
